A man charged with a hate crime in Oak Park this week told police he was so upset about the Trayvon Martin case that he beat up a man because he was white, authorities said.
Alton L. Hayes III, 18, of Oak Park, and a 15-year-old Chicagoan — both black — walked up behind the 19-year-old victim and pinned his arms to his side early Tuesday, police said. Hayes then picked up a large tree branch, pointed it at the man and said, “Empty your pockets, white boy.”
They rifled through his pockets, threw him to the ground and punched him in the head and back “numerous times,” police said.
They ran off, but officers sent to the scene spotted them and arrested them.
After he was arrested, Hayes told police he was upset by the racially charged Trayvon Martin case in Florida and beat the man because he was white, Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said, citing court records.
Hayes was charged with attempted robbery, aggravated battery and a hate crime, all felonies.
He was ordered held on $80,000 bond and remained in Cook County Jail on Friday. The 15-year-old was referred to juvenile court.

Hey, is there a White Panther Party? No, oh well................

  1. This is just more proof that racists exist on all sides. Something people should just admit and deal with all of them in the same way. Looking at some of the behaviors regarding this Martin situation is very eye opening. As I said on another blog comment, soon the new term for someone getting shafted/screwed will be, "he got Zimmermanned."

  2. Hello J.O.B.
This is the unfortunate reactions of misguided people. I think that we will again soon hear of someone once again attacking a black person as a reprisal to this black man’s attacking of a white person simply because he was white.

As I have passed on, I saw first hand years before in the mid-1970’s the embedded haltered of Serbs and Bosnians for each other that imploded in Yugoslavia 1992–1995 during that genocide purging.

I am in the desired hopes that we as a nation can avoid this and not repeat the mistakes we all saw in what was once in the area known as Yugoslavia.

If it happened their, it can happen here if allowed to infest our thinking, festering and progressing without the more saner minds speaking out.

The old adage of, “An eye for an eye, etc” only leaves everyone blind and solves nothing.

    A very sad tale indeed.

  3. Pal- Very true, racism seems to be in every culture. How come when the goofiest shit happens, it seems to happen in Florida?

E- Yes, an eye for an eye never seems to work out for the best results. Instead of letting the justice system do it's job, people all to often take matters into their own hands. The BPP has succeeded in creating nationwide racial tension. Hopefully everything calms down and the justice system can go to work.
